Artist’s Biography

As far back as I can remember, my nickname was Leslee The Artist. Think under 4 years old. The concept stuck. My entire life has been involved in making art in one form or another.

I was educated at Carnegie Mellon University, with additional subsequent coursework elsewhere. A variety of topics intrigued me including Film Theory, lots of French history, Art History of course, and English.

I spent the bulk of my professional career as a graphic designer. My graphic design work was recognized and received numerous awards internationally, from as far away as Switzerland and Japan. My work was featured in the New York Times, the Annuals of both the New York Art Directors and Type Directors Clubs. Further, I was featured in articles profiling my work in the US standard bearers of graphic design, Communication Arts, Print and How magazines.

Often invited to speak about graphic design and assess a variety of national design competitions, I gratefully had the distinct honor of being invited to judge the true benchmark, the Communications Arts Annual, which results yearly in a much sought after publication.

My clients included The San Fransisco Symphony, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, a host of Fortune 500 companies as well as a diverse group of universities, non-profit foundations and legal firms.

Moving to the Berkshires, I rekindled my childhood passion for making art for art’s sake. Happily, I harnessed the skills I learned in my long design career to augment my artistic expression.

I have taught design, typography, photography and art, both at the university level and privately.

I have participated in many gallery shows both as a solo artist and as part of group showings. My work is represented in numerous private collections, I have also created private commissions for particular needs and spaces, a challenge I particularly enjoy.

A long time art collector myself, I have a strong broad based knowledge of contemporary art, gleaned from a lifetime of visits to museums and galleries. My passion for art is matched by my love of the Berkshires and all the natural wonders and cultural activities I enjoy here.

I am thoroughly possessed by my Irish Terrier and in less raucous moments, when not attending live concerts, I relish classical music in the quiet of my studio..
